The Missing Variable: Infusion Sets
Pump failure is rarely algorithmic; it is mechanical. The cannula interface is the weak link. The standard is 3-day wear (Teflon or steel). Medtronic recently introduced a 7-day extended wear set using advanced materials to prevent insulin fibrillation and occlusion. Factor site rotation and set failure rates into your cost-benefit analysis.
