Correction Dose Calculator
Determines the amount of rapid-acting insulin needed to correct high blood sugar back to target.
Formula: (Current BG - Target BG) / ISF = Correction Dose
Example: (250 - 100) / 50 = 150 / 50 = 3 units.
Ensure you subtract Active Insulin (IOB) from this final number to prevent stacking.
Clinical Context
This formula requires an accurate Insulin Sensitivity Factor (ISF). If your ISF is unknown, see the ISF Calculator.
Active Insulin Warning
Never stack insulin.
If you have taken rapid-acting insulin in the last 3-4 hours, it is still lowering your blood sugar. You must subtract that active insulin from your calculated correction dose.
